How can I find and access digital or physical archives/ primary sources?
My course requires me to use primary sources or archival materials in my paper. How do I find resources in the digital collections or in the archives?
Am I able to go to the library to borrow and check out archival material or is it only allowed to be read in the library?
Answer
In the Library's research guides, you can find the guide "Navigating TC's Archives and Special Collections". This guide includes information on how to search for and access materials in the archives and the digital collections. It also provides details on how to request material, guidelines for using archives, as well as tips for finding resources outside of Teachers College.
Archival material cannot be checked out of the library and must be used in the Special Collections Reading Room, which is available by appointment. You can find out more about the Reading Room and about Special and Digital Collections Policy on our Services Page.
If you require further assistance, or aren't sure where or how to start your search, please contact the library or book a consultation with the Special and Digital Collections Librarian.
